The 90-Day Plan: DAY 8

DAY 8

Make an attempt to UNDERSTAND YOUR LOCAL ECOSYSTEM and how you fit in.
It is important to note that you won't know what you have to lose,
unless you know what you have. See for yourself what recreational
activities are best for the area what, if any, current issues are at
hand.

Challenge: Rank the top ten endangered species in your area or region
and what is a threat to them; then determine what can action will be
needed to increase their odds of survival.

The 90-Day Plan: DAY 7

DAY 7

CHANGE YOUR MODE of TRANSPORTATION to your next destination. Even
cutting one trip per day from your drive lowers emissions, saves money
on fuel, and maybe even sheds a few pounds.

Challenge: Map out how many of your favorite places and friends
houses you can bike, skate, or walk to and take in the benefits of
spending time outside.

The 90-Day Plan: DAY 6

DAY 6

It is time to UNPLUG anything that is not in use. Over 75% of US
energy production comes from burning fossil fuels. Phantom Loads and
Standby Units can account for 10-20% of a household's energy use.
This is energy your are not using but it is electricity you are paying
for. Save energy and money by unplugging chargers, appliances, and
other electrical devices when they are not in use. Also try using a
power strip and switching it off is a convenient way to save too!
Also, for good measure, turn off lights when you leave the room.

Challenge: What is ocean acidification and its primary cause?

Stop Toxic Strawberries

Methyl iodide is being considered as a soil fumigant for strawberries. In my college chemistry textbook, methyl iodide is the poster child for alkylating DNA, which basically throws a wrench in the physiological machinery. This opens the doors for mutated DNA strands which can lead to cancer.

Please sign this today to prevent Methyl Iodide from being used as a soil fumigant for strawberries.

Dear Friend,
I just took action and hope you can too. California is considering allowing the use of a highly toxic chemical on strawberry fields. This affects all of us, since 90% of U.S. strawberries are grown in California. This chemical, methyl iodide, causes a lot of problems including cancer, miscarriages, and brain damage to fetuses and children.

We have until June 30th to ask California to reject the use of this toxic chemical on our strawberries. Can you take action to stop the use of methyl iodide for strawberries?
