Methyl iodide is being considered as a soil fumigant for strawberries. In my college chemistry textbook, methyl iodide is the poster child for alkylating DNA, which basically throws a wrench in the physiological machinery. This opens the doors for mutated DNA strands which can lead to cancer.
Please sign this today to prevent Methyl Iodide from being used as a soil fumigant for strawberries.
Dear Friend,
I just took action and hope you can too. California is considering allowing the use of a highly toxic chemical on strawberry fields. This affects all of us, since 90% of U.S. strawberries are grown in California. This chemical, methyl iodide, causes a lot of problems including cancer, miscarriages, and brain damage to fetuses and children.
We have until June 30th to ask California to reject the use of this toxic chemical on our strawberries. Can you take action to stop the use of methyl iodide for strawberries?
