The 90-Day Plan: DAY 6

The 90 Day Plan - 90 Ways in 90 Days

The 90 Day Plan: Day 6

CHANGE YOUR MODE of TRANSPORTATION to your next destination. Even cutting one trip per day from your drive lowers emissions, saves money on fuel, and maybe even sheds a few pounds.

Skate to work!

Challenge: Map out how many of your favorite places and friends houses you can bike, skate, or walk to and take in the benefits of spending time outside.

The 90-Day Plan: DAY 5

The 90 Day Plan - 90 Ways in 90 Days

The 90 Day Plan: Day 5

It is time to UNPLUG anything that is not in use. Over 75% of US energy production comes from burning fossil fuels. Phantom Loads and Standby Units can account for 10-20% of a household's energy use. This is energy your are not using but it is electricity you are paying for. Save energy and money by unplugging chargers, appliances, and other electrical devices when they are not in use. Also try using a power strip and switching it off is a convenient way to save too! Also, for good measure, turn off lights when you leave the room.

Buy one today and start saving!

The 90-Day Plan: DAY 4

The 90 Day Plan - 90 Ways in 90 Days

The 90 Day Plan: Day 4

PLEASE PASS on PLASTICS! When it comes down to it, less than 4% of all plastics are recycled. Plastic trash is the most common form of marine pollution. As you read this, our waterways and oceans are filling with plastic pollution from the land. The majority of this plastic comes in the form of disposable plastic bottles and bags. Even though you may place a plastic container in the recycle bin, chances are that it will end up in the landfill, or worse…

Get a reusable water container.

The 90-Day Plan: DAY 3

The 90 Day Plan: Day 3

REDUCE, REUSE, and then RECYCLE. The order of these steps really does matter for conservation efforts to be most effective, so don't waste in the first place. Although recycling is much better than throwing something away, the process still requires a great deal of energy to transport and sort materials. This is also poses economic question: does a buyer exist for recycled goods? Reduce the amount of products you use first, reuse them second, and then recycle third.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Challenge: How far away is your recycling center and landfill? What additional recycling services does your municipality offer? Can you obtain a large container instead of a small bin and make an attempt to recycle more items than you throw away?

The 90-Day Plan: DAY 2

The 90 Day Plan: Day 2

Take a stand. DON'T LITTER. It's the most basic act of responsibility. Unfortunately, many people still improperly dispose of garbage. Over 80% of trash found in the oceans comes from land. Next time, don't just walk by litter, set the example by picking it up and disposing of it properly.

Don't Litter!

Challenge: Did you know that on average, Americans throw almost 5 pounds of trash away every day? Weigh the amount of waste you produce today and determine if you trash more than you recycle.

The 90-Day Plan: DAY 1

The 90 Day Plan: Day 1

DIVE IN! It's the best way to become familiar with the water. Swimming is great exercise, and experiencing the water builds appreciation for it. Did you know that 1 in 3 Americans don't know how to swim. If you already know how to swim, try to think of someone you know that doesn't and you can teach them. Or make it a goal to improve your own ability.

Learn how to swim!

Challenge: Are there any water sports you would like to try? Make an attempt to try a new water activity before summer is over.

The 90-Day Plan and Expedition 1000 Kick-Off!

Today is day one of The 90-Day Plan: 90 Ways in 90 Days to Clean & Conserve Water!

We are launching The 90-Day Plan to coincidence with an adventure the Creative Explorer, Dave Cornthwaite, kicked-off his expedition from source-to-sea down the Mississippi River.

His journey and The 90-Day Plan will run for the next three months they will both reveal a lot about the Mississippi and the reflection this great river has on America.

Dave's expedition aims to provide a platform for flatwater Stand Up Paddleboarding as a healthy, enjoyable sport, linking  communities along the waterway, encouraging an appreciation of the Mississippi River through sport and travel as well as highlighting the issues faced by the river.

Dave will speak in many of the communities along the way, incorporating his ongoing journey along the river with his previous (and future) adventures, all the while filming a documentary of a journey that if successful may be a World Record Distance by Stand Up Paddleboard, a record currently held by the amazing Tom Jones from the USA.

If you would like to support Dave on his Mississippi Expedition please get in touch, we're on the look out for schools and community groups based along the river to help with fundraising activities and to join Dave on the water. Like on Dave's Murray River Expedition The Blue Mile concept will be a big part of the Mississippi journey, so get involved!
